Matthew Herbert - Movers and the Shakers

Track from Herbert's 2006 album Scale. Free download here. His most pop friendly album combines jazz, disco, house and big ballad as well as a whole bag of electronic tricks. For this album the nutjob sampled the sound of 723 objects including a fighter jet, petrol pumps and a coke can.

One of his forthcoming albums "One Pig" will be a concept piece made up entirely from sounds produced during the life cycle of a pig.

"rather frustratingly, and despite many phone calls we have found it impossible to find an abattoir to allow us to record the death of the pig. we found one farmer willing to let us record, but then the attending vet did not allow it. "

He blogs all about it here.

The pig was eaten on 17th august 2010.

Matthew Herbert - Take Me Back

The EPIC 1996 house classic "Take Me Back". Choon. Herbert is djing in Panorama tomorrow night. Have seen him live doing the Big Band stuff, the Herbert stuff, but I've never seen him doing a DJ set. Seemingly he's doing a mix of his DJ set and his live act using his own pieces or remixes of songs he's done. "It is intended to be a celebration of the potential of dance music to be both engaging for the curious mind and, of course, the body." :D

And here is the AMAZING remix of the above track by Herbert himself. This was released on a bonus disc when 100lbs (the album that contained the original) was re-released in 2006. This is the version I've heard played most in various sets.
